My nan won! Skype: Oldest User Award
To my knowledge, skype doesn’t actually have a ‘Skype: Oldest User Award’, but they should.
My nan’s 93 years young and an avid skype user, so I’m awarding my nan the People’s Choice – Skype: Oldest User Award.
I don’t know that she is for sure the oldest, but I’m awarding this to her until proven otherwise (or until Skype issue a take-down notice).
Do you want to take the award away from my nan?
Then you’ll need to find someone even older that uses skype and they’ll need to comply with the following criteria:
- They must have their own skype account, linked to their own email address
- They must initiate a video call (without assistance)
- They must look into the camera during the call
- They must know how to hang up (without assistance)
FYI – My nan’s also on gmail/google chat, she has her own mobile and digital camera, so she’s a tough contender.
FTW!
Update 20 Oct 09: Looks like my nan lost her title as Skype’s oldest user, although she was still the first person to try out Google Talk, so she’s still cool in my books
Recipe: Try out my Nan’s zucchini bread

She’s definitely the oldest! She was also the first person to ever use Google Talk — on the first day it was in Beta. =)
That’s too funny!!! I totally forgot about that. She is definitely on the bleeding edge of technology!
Whats Auntie Freda’s skype address and perhaps I can talk to her one of these days.
x Dani
@Dani She would love that! I’ve just emailed it to you
I sit here with my uncle, eating dinner. He tells me he know a couple well where the man is 94, soon turning 95 and uses Skype regularly to call his grand grand child
However on http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=17051&st=0 somebody claims 95
Oh no! Looks like my Nan is going to lose her title!!!!!! Maybe it’s time for her to move on to Twitter
It’s amazing that the 75+ age group seems to have really adapted to Skype whereas the younger crowds (25-75) are laggards!
Well, I am gonna up the game here a bit. Just set up my Grandma with Skype today, her own account and own email linked in her own house, and she will be starting use of it tonight with a family skype-a-thon. Oh, as for her age? 103 and fully in command of her faculties. Lets see any one beat that, and I will invite you all to give her a call once I have her comfortable with it to see for yourselves. She has used it before, about 3 years ago, to talk to family in Ireland. Which she still remembers. Granny rocks.
103? Quite a triumph! Interested to know if she has any little online quirks?
I recall my nan complaining that when she writes an email, she always runs out of room… I later discovered that she didn’t know you could scroll
Tell your Grandma, I think she rocks too
